NZLG’s founding and oldest group. With a strong focus on the lightsaber forms and how to apply them to competitive saber combat, our group loves to welcome new members looking to get into the sport of competitive lightsaber combat. We’re active and love to liaise with the local Hamilton group and you’ll often see members from each group attend each others meets.

The group meets weekly under the Sails in the Rotorua Redwoods and during Spring & Autumn, we also fit in some mid-week meets at the Temple of the Carbon Flame (SH5 Hemo Roundabout).

Restrictions: 14+ years (though we’re always more than happy to stop and let families grab a saber or two and pose for photos) .

What Mark doesn’t know about saber forms isn’t worth knowing.

Winner of the Spring 2021 National Lightsaber Tournament, Mark loves working through the fine points of saber lore & philosophy before blending them with real world, practical combat techniques in order to develop an effective combat syllabus.

Having been with the scene since day 1, Roy is the resident group saber smith. He helps keep the equipment in top shape for regulars, new members and visitors, alike. The best person to ask about saber tech.

Both Mark & Roy share the primary training duties for new members and excel at getting new attendees up to speed very quickly. The group is rounded out by some awesome regulars who also step in and assist with coaching.
